Tuning into August
“Breathe the sweetness that hovers in August.”

August carries a particular kind of warmth, not just in the sunshine, but in the feeling of long days, ripening gardens, salty skin after sea swims, and moments that invite us to slow down and savour summer before the seasons begin to turn. The flower most connected with August, the Gladiolus. Tall, elegant, and quietly striking, it has long symbolised strength of character, sincerity, remembrance, and resilience. Its name comes from the Latin word gladius, meaning “sword”Gladiolus also makes me think of one of my, slightly bonkers, favourite films, Drop Dead Fred. Beneath all the chaos, silliness, and childhood mischief, there’s something beautifully healing at its heart, the rediscovery of joy, imagination, freedom, and the courage to reconnect with the truest parts of ourselves. In a way, that feels deeply connected to the spirit of the Gladiolus. Often seen as a symbol of strength and resilience, it reminds us that strength does not always have to be loud. Sometimes strength is simply continuing. Staying open-hearted. Resting when needed. Beginning again after difficult moments. Standing tall whilst remaining deeply rooted. And perhaps allowing space for lightness, play, and laughter alongside the seriousness of life. We spend so much energy trying to appear “grown up” and held together that we can forget the importance of joy and letting ourselves breathe a little more freely.Nature shows us this so beautifully. Flowers bloom in their own timing, turning instinctively towards the light, weathering wind and rain without resistance. Perhaps we can learn something from that too.Sessions reduced in August for family time. In the sound meditations this month, we’ll explore grounding, gentle renewal, and reconnecting with our inner steadiness beneath the noise of daily life. A space to pause, breathe, soften, and simply be.“Like wildflowers you must allow yourself to grow in all the places people thought you never would.”(E.V. Rogina)

What a beautiful and expansive July it has been so far, beginning the month with regular sessions in beautiful venues, a wonderful charity day with Natalie Love Yoga Tree raising money for Children’s Hospice South West. Thank you to all who supported. Making the most of the glorious weather moving the Sauna Sound & Social evening at Highwell outside under the shade of the tree was just beautiful.
| Then came my journey to Yoga Mela festival celebrating yoga, sacred music and conscious community, in the natural surroundings of Divinya in southern Sweden, with friends Premanjali Music, who performed with such heart felt beauty, throughout the festival. It is unfolding as a truly immersive and inspiring week. Experiencing so many amazing artists, musicians, teachers and meditations including Sacred Earth ‘Ancient Mother’ & Xavier Rudd ‘Follow the Sun’ two of my favourite songs, so many goosebump moments and a deep sense of peace.I feel incredibly grateful for this July, to everyone who joined July’s regular classes, collaborations at the beginning of the month, with a couple of events still to come. Your presence, openness, and support continue to make this work so meaningful, and it’s a joy to share these spaces together. To honour every person who attends, and as a small way of giving back to our beautiful Earth, I plant trees through Ecologi 🌳So thank you, for connecting, supporting, and helping nurture yourself, community and planet.
